We consider that there are two types of planning even though most people only pick one:

    1. Daily planning

You start the day and you plan what you will be doing today, rescheduling some tasks to a later day, blocking time in your calendar for the most important items etc.

    2. Weekly planning

You start the week and organize it, picking some objectives/tasks while postponing others to a later week.

The point is, from that feedback that we have received, that information is scattered among multiple screens (Inbox, Agenda and Calendar), making it painful is a bit painful to plan.

Having more information on a single screen would make things easier. The main question we are still asking ourselves is how to organize that extra information.

Either we use tabs which is more elegant but the information is a bit harder to access since one must click on tabs to navigate. In particular, it makes having an overview of all the tasks to consider quite difficult.

The alternative is to use retractable/expandable sections. This is a bit more intrusive but has the merit of allowing to quickly see all the overdue, upcoming and unplanned (inbox) tasks.

What we envision is for the Upcoming section to display planned (scheduled/postponed) tasks of the current and next week. This way you can easily see your tasks for tomorrow (and the next day) along with the tasks of the week (postponed).

However, drag & dropping is a bit more complicated than with tabs. With tabs, you could drag a task onto the Tomorrow tab to reschedule to tomorrow for instance. With retractable sections, dropping onto Upcoming would need to be defined: tomorrow? .

This approach can then be applied to the Calendar screen the same way e.g:

NOTE: in the future, Canvases will allow you to compose screens to display the information you want wherever you want.

What do you think? Which one do you prefer or do you have an alternative in mind?

    Thanks

the tabs looks “cooler” but the list is more functional and mobile ready - as you can move task to upcoming (by week) and change the date of the task and make a softer commitment which can boost delivery.

inbox for me is a special “mode” (outside world generating noise and tasks which you need to sift at times) its either go or no go. no → delete, go → move to unplanned or allocate time. i would not move it as a regular list. i would extend today with upcoming by weeks as it your part of your method moving to weeks.

inbox object is separate entity “that may become a task or move to a page”. just like pages should not spill into tasks unless the page is fully formed and ready to be executed. allocate a time or a week or unplanned. but the action takes it off the inbox ← this is a must, i believe. inbox zero works! (for me)

routine is not yet my daily driver but i have paid before and will again. my biggest issue is clutter in the tasks area. the above is my way of solving it. i don’t want to create elaborate views if i don’t have to. maybe a setting toggle.

I just saw this come through Beta, and I like the idea of having overdue/unplanned tasks show up in Agenda (where I spend most time on Routine) so that I don’t lose them so thanks for that

but honestly I’m not a huge fan of the new layout with noisy section headers “Upcoming”, “Unplanned”, “Overdue”, “Completed” because the Agenda page looks cluttered even when I have no task for the day

Instead I would like to propose/suggest:

    • remove Upcoming section (can already use other features like going to a different day on the Agenda tab, or Tasks tab, Calendar tab, etc.) - I think the Agenda is about focus and having all the future events show up makes me unable to focus on what needs to be prioritized that day

    • have "Plan" button show by default for Unplanned tasks

    • have a red "Plan" button show by default for Overdue tasks

    • have Overdue/Unplanned tasks at the bottom of the day's list (bonus: sort feature)

    • Filter in Agenda: ability to show/hide Unplanned/Overdue/Completed tasks

    here’s a quick mock up:

Thanks. We’re considering those as possibilities as well. Definitely good ideas.
